My life as a country song
It was funny at the time, and I'm still giggling a little.
As we prepare for the upcoming sale of the house and move, some things needed to be removed from the property. Including, one 1 ton van. Diesel. Full of drums of oil. Hasn't moved in a very long time. On my last few trips to Whitecourt, I've been working on getting it started. The weekend before it had the van running, so I thought that we were ready to go. Or not.
So last weekend, Kyle and I go to Whitecourt. As soon as we get to town, I charge up the batteries on the van, and plug it in. The next morning, it starts like a dream. Good. Now we just need to dig it out of the snow bank, and we should be off. Kyle can head back to Calgary, and I can get on with packing and helping Rose.
Not so fast.
Remember, the van hasn't moved in a very long time. So even once we dig it out, it doesn't want to move. No problem, I'll just pull it with the truck.
Nope, won't even budge. The van has sunk into the soft ground over the last year, then the soft ground froze. Each wheel is about 4 inches into the ground, and stuck to the ice. Not good.
So I hook up the chain. Nothing.
shovel. Nope.
A neighbor shows up with a truck and a winch. Big Truck. It's Whitecourt, trucks are big in Whitecourt. The big truck, won't move the van. In fact the winch is pulling the big Toyota very close to the Ford.
So we re-group.
We hook up the Toyota to the Ford. Then the GM to the Toyota. And between the two trucks, we get the Ford unstuck.
When all was said and done, Kyle and I both had the same problem, we couldn't get that Corb Lund song "Truck Got Stuck" out of our heads.

Were the tires any good when you got the truck out??? Did the truck make it to Calgary or not?
good music - like the beat - now how do I get it out of my head so I can sleep tonight? later man, jan
just reading the post I had the song stuck in my head before I got to The actual song reference. . Oh yeah. I don't want the Van.
Dan
Yes, the van did make it to Calgary in one piece. There was a little worry about one of the tires. It seems that sitting in more or less one spot, with a ton or so of load, isn't so great for the side wall. Who would have guessed? Oh well, it made it.
Great work.
